Directed Energy

Directed energy technology uses a highly focused stream of energy in forms such as light or microwaves to affect a target with high precision and minimal collateral damage.

Integrating directed energy, hypersonics, and materials testing, our Center for Directed Energy is one of only two of its kind nationally in academia. The center collaborates with industry partners and the U.S. Navy.

With its focus on lasers, the Center for Directed Energy is a resource for researchers and engineers trained in laser weapons:

  • High-energy lasers at 1 micron
  • High-energy lasers at 2 microns in fabrication
  • Illuminating ultrashort pulse lasers (USPL)
  • High-power counter-measure lasers for deflecting missiles

These and other cutting-edge technologies make the Center invaluable for testing, evaluation, and workforce development.
